FLASH CARDS OF COMMON FRESHWATER INVERTEBRATES OF NORTH AMERICA
Set One – Major Classes and Orders
by J. Reese Voshell, Jr.
2009, 32 two-sided waterproof flash cards, 4 x 6″. Each card features an original high-quality color scientific illustration of an organism on one side and, on the other, the common and scientific name of the organism along with basic questions and answers about the biology, ecology, and environmental tolerances of the pictured organism. Cards Include true bugs, water beetles, damselflies and dragonflies, stoneflies mayflies, dobsonflies, fishflies, hellgrammites, caddisflies, and true flies. The cards are printed in full color on synthetic material with uv-resistant inks and are coated to further protect against fading.
In addition to the flash cards, a 24-page booklet illustrating names and locations of body structures, life stages through which invertebrates pass, a glossary of terms used on the cards, and suggestions for using the cards accompanies the set.
Cards are based on illustrations and information contained in Voshell’s book A Guide to Common Freshwater Invertebrates of North America, #9962, illustrated by Amy Bartlett Wright. They have been updated to include the most recent and pertinent information on adaptations and functions of freshwater invertebrates in natural ecosystems and how the organisms respond to environmental stresses.
See #3534 and #3545 for descriptions of two additional flash card sets.
See #3548 QuickGuide to Major Groups of Freshwater Invertebrates, laminated, folded chart.
